If you are not currently a WashU student but have applied to the MS in Mechanical Engineering degree program, you may apply as a MakerFellow with a 4-semester commitment. Review the full position description and requirements here before applying.

If you are a current WashU student who has applied to  BS/MS program in Mechanical Engineering or is currently enrolled in the  MS in Mechanical Engineering degree program you may apply as MakerFellow with a 2 to 4 semester commitment.  Review the full position description and requirements here (WashU login required).

When is the submission deadline?

Applications for the Fall 2025 MakerFellow position must be submitted by Friday March 28, 2025

When will I hear back after I’ve submitted my application?

We will review your application and contact you to follow up only after you have been accepted into the BS/MS or MSME program. We will connect with qualified applicants to confirm interest and determine the next steps by April 15, 2025. Do I need to commit to two years as a MakerFellow?

If you are not a current WashU student, the MakerFellow program is structured as a 4-semester commitment. For current WashU students who are enrolling in the BS/MS program or have completed a year of the MS program, you may choose a 2-semester commitment.

Can I be a MakerFellow while doing research in a lab?

No, since both your Makerpace duties and independent study project(s) are significant time commitments.

Does the MakerFellow position include the summer term?

MakerFellows receive a monthly stipend during the academic year. Students who make a 4-semester commitment may choose to continue their MakerFellow duties in the summer between their first and second year with the agreement of the Makerspace director or may seek an internship.
